Perry-Lecompton Students to Complete MAP Assessment

Launch the media gallery 1 playerIt is that time of year! Perry-Lecompton students are participating in the yearly round of MAP testing in USD #343. (MAP stands for Measures of Academic Progress.) This test is given up to three times per year and is used by teachers to gauge exactly where each student stands academically. In other words, it provides data about where the child is in their learning process; what they already know and what they are ready to learn.
The MAP test is dynamically adaptive to the student's test answers. If the student answers a question correctly, the next question will be more challenging. If the student answers a question incorrectly, the test will offer a simpler question. With the MAP test being so adaptive to individual student knowledge, the score reflects a realistic view of where the student is in terms of learning.
All students in grades two through twelve will take the MAP test in Reading and Math. Only students in grades 7 and 10 will complete the MAP Science assessment. The assessment window will run from August 26 through September 27. The assessments are taken on the student issued iPad and will give teachers timely information that they can use to adjust instruction to meet the needs of each student. Because the tests are computerized, the students will receive feedback as soon as they finish taking the test.
Students will take the test a second time towards the end of the second semester beginning on April 6th. The purpose of the second test is to show clear evidence of their own progress over the course of the year. The MAP testing system maintains a file of each student's scores, so that families will have a one-page profile of the student's growth.
