Death
The death of a student, teacher, or other staff member is traumatic and must be approached in a sensitive manner. The following policies will be in effect unless overridden by the Board of Education or the Superintendent on a case-by-case basis.
The building administrator will collect any personal effects of the deceased and send them to the district office. The family liaison officer will contact the family and arrange for the delivery of the effects at their convenience.
The superintendent may activate the Keystone Learning Service Crisis Management team. The superintendent will also contact members of the Board of Education and building administrators as indicated.
Memorial services will not be held on any USD 343 property. Students and staff will be released to attend funeral services as specified in applicable handbooks.
Memorial arrangements (such as flowers, ribbons, etc) will not be placed on lockers, desks, or offices. Flowers and balloons designed to be part of a memorial will be delivered to the district office and forwarded to the family.
The recommended form of a memorial is a donation to the USD 343 Endowment Association.
